Good morning! Today I'm going to try something new ... I am going to try to post a morning video message on our 5M google classroom page every morning. This is kind of scary for me, but you know, I always tell you that it's when you're uncomfortable that's when you really grow as a person, right? So, I will post my link right here for your first morning video message.

Happy Monday, 5M! I hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend with your families, and that all of you are feeling healthy and rested.
The amazing writer, Maya Angelou, once said, "If you don't like something, change it. If you can't change it, change your attitude." It's unfortunate that we can't be together at MMS right now, but that's out of our control, and we cannot change it. However, we can control - and choose - what kind of attitude we have. So this morning, let's all make a decision to be positive, open-minded, and energetic about the upcoming week of remote learning. If we remember that we're all in this together, we can get through anything!
Let's get started on Week #2!
Click here for Mr. Conlon's morning announcements. Today is a D day (Art) so you should get creative by:

Happy Friday, 5M! You have almost completed one week of remote learning! I'm really proud of how you've shown your resilience and strength. Way to get "gritty"! You've proven that you can dig in and adapt to change by working hard and sticking to it. Let's keep that going into Week 2!
I miss you all; have a wonderful weekend and stay safe & well!

Good morning, 5M! Your teachers are working on developing new ways for us to "meet" online, and I look forward to "seeing" all of you again soon! Also keep an eye out for a survey we are creating to find out how your first week of remote learning was for you, and how we can help to support you moving forward. On that note, here's your quote for today:
“You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have.” – Jim Rohn There is a lot in life that you will not be able to change for one reason or another. The best way to find peace and confidence in yourself is not to let the outer world affect your inner world too much. Focus on what you CAN do instead of what you CAN'T change. Have a great day!

Good morning, 5M! I hope that you’re all well and happy today. We are in a process of creating a new mindset about learning from home; it’s a little awkward for all of us to adjust to, I know! I want to remind you that you can reach me through email, or leave a comment on our 5M google classroom page thoughout the day. (I am planning to be live on classroom on Wednesday from 2-3pm if you want to ask me any questions, or just say hi...)
Here’s a quote that I thought might make sense for us today: “The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” —B.B. King Just because we aren’t together in the classroom doesn’t mean that we each can’t grow and learn in new (and maybe unexpected?) ways. Let’s keep our minds open to all the possibilities…

Monday, March 23, 2020
- finishing your Cresskill poster,
- creating your rainbow (if you haven't already), and/or
- exploring Mrs. Ramsden's website for some very cool artistic resources (see above).
Quick reminder: for those who might be looking for some extra challenges or enrichment, click on Mrs. Hedaria's resource page (see above). She has lots of amazing "out of the box" resources for you to explore!

- Try to create a jot and response today focusing on “setting”: For example, as you’re reading, jot about the importance of the setting (when/where the action of the story takes place), or why you think the author chose to create that particular setting. How does the setting help to advance the plot? Then write your response to expand upon this jot.
Writing:
- Today's prompt asks you to consider whether you are an optimist or a pessimist.
- Make a claim, and support it in an essay where you provide reasons and evidence (examples) from your own life. Is your glass half-full or half-empty?

Wednesday, March 18, 2020
Click here for Mr. Conlon's morning announcements. Today is an A day, so check out Mr. Mello's web site for some musical resources.

- Revise, edit and type your first memoir onto a google doc and upload here. This assignment is due on Friday 3/20.
- Click here to complete the writing prompt of the day on google classroom. You should spend at least 30 minutes working on this prompt: Imagine you could travel back in time to when your mom or dad was your age. Write an essay about your relationship with your fifth grade (10-11 year old) parent. What are some questions you’d ask them? What are some things you would do with them? What advice would you give them to remember when they become parents to you (in the future)? If you want to include your grandparents in this too, you can! To take it a next step further, if you can, go ahead and ask your parents the questions you came up with.
